What is the Rainbow Filter?

This tool draws a seven-color rainbow gradient across your image using the canvas overlay blend mode, which lightens bright areas and darkens dark ones as it mixes in each hue, rather than just painting flat stripes on top. No, even at 100% intensity the overlay blend mode preserves your photo's light and shadow structure — it colors the image rather than replacing it.

Why does the same intensity look different on a bright vs. dark photo?

The overlay blend mode reacts to the underlying brightness of each pixel, so the rainbow appears more vivid over midtones and more subtle over very bright or very dark areas.

Can I change which colors are used?

Not in this version — the filter always cycles through the full standard rainbow spectrum, but you can control how strong that spectrum appears with the intensity slider.
